🙌🏽 In my Reiki classes, I often used the analogy of the foundation of your house as a metaphor for the foundation of your being. I would equate it to the root chakra, which deals with all your physical needs—food, security, and protection.
🏠 I am getting a new roof this week. The workers started today. The sound of the asphalt shingles being ripped out with shovels is deafening, as they cascade, broken, like giant fragments littering the grounds around my house. As disconcerting and inconvenient as the whole process is, it feels like a poetic release of energy.
Twenty-one years ago, when the house was built, I was living nowhere near here; everything was brand new. Time and the elements weather houses, especially roofs. A family once moved into this home with a fresh new roof over their heads. The foundation was solid, everything aligned and untouched—a clean slate (pun intended). The excitement of starting a new chapter was matched by hope for a bright future in the Sunshine State.
☀️ With energy work, chakras are cleansed and renewed by the powerful healing energy channeled through the hands. It is a time for reset. And now, with the old roof—weathered, beaten, and rusted nails scattered like scars—I, too, feel it is time for renewal. The energies of the world have been haywire. You may find meaning in the Zodiac, the equinox, summer dying, and autumn quietly settling in.
🧘🏽♀️ For women rebuilding after divorce, this renewal often feels like more than a metaphor. The old roof of who we once were—the life we thought was fixed—gets stripped away. It’s noisy, messy, and inconvenient. And yet, beneath all that rubble, a sturdier foundation waits to support what comes next.
😎 When you live in Florida, where there’s no real fall—only heat, humidity, and the threat of hurricanes—nothing can be taken for certain. We never know when disturbances in the Atlantic might swell into massive tropical storms and then morph into deadly hurricanes. Life is that way. We may make plans and hold expectations close to our hearts, but no one can truly predict the storms ahead.
Even so, I see this as the perfect opportunity for a reset. Within days, we’ll have a new roof over our heads, which makes me feel safe—and I hold out hope that our homeowners’ insurance premium might dip a tad.
🙏🏽 But my personal reset? That’s on my schedule. I can align myself too. My hands, quiet for too long, are ready to awaken again. I could do a Reiki session on myself. Re-align, re-balance, re-energize, re-set my entire being. My body, my choice—as the saying goes—and that applies to my energetic recalibration.
🔮 Maybe I don’t have a crystal ball for what is to come. But just as a new roof offers protection for my home and family, my own realignment offers protection for my soul. The foundation of my being is, and always will be, my responsibility alone.
